When rip-rap makes sense
Rip-rap is a sloped layer of rock that absorbs wave energy instead of reflecting it. It is a good fit for lakes, ponds and gentler shorelines, and in some locations it is what the permitting agencies prefer to see.

Seawall or rip-rap?
A seawall gives you a vertical edge and usable yard right up to the water. Rip-rap takes up more room but is often less expensive and gentler on the shoreline. We look at the site, the water and what is allowed there, and recommend what fits.

Do I need a permit to build or replace a dock or seawall?
Almost always, yes. Docks, seawalls and boat lifts in Brevard County need a building permit from the county or from your city, and depending on the site the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers may also need to sign off. We prepare the drawings and handle the permit applications as part of the job.
